The core team at UIM consists of a small group of exceptional individuals with a proven track record in communication, internet, defense and medical systems technologies, international mangagement and entrepeneurial know how:

Uzia Galil currently serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Uzia Initiatives and Management Ltd., which he founded in November 1999.

Until November 1999, Uzia Galil served as Chairman and CEO of Elron Electronic Industries Ltd. (Elron), the first high technology holding company in Israel, which he founded in 1962 and served as President & CEO from its inception.

During this period he also acted as Chairman and/or Member of the Board of Directors of the publicly traded Elron affiliates - Elbit Ltd., a communication company, Elbit Systems Ltd., a defense electronic company, EMI Ltd. and Elscint Ltd., medical imaging companies and the private companies in the Elron group and continues to serve as a member of the Boards of Directors of Orbotech Ltd., Partner Communications Co. Ltd., NetManage Inc. and as Chairman of Zoran Corporation (all publicly traded).

Prior to founding Elron, Uzia Galil was the head of the electronic department of physics at the Israeli Institute of Technology (Technion) between 1957 and 1962.
From 1954 to 1957 he served in the Israeli Navy in charge of electronic research and development. From 1953 to 1954 he worked in R&D with Motorola in Chicago, USA.

Uzia Galil holds an M.Sc.EE degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and a B.Sc. degree from the Technion.

From 1980 to 1990, Uzia Galil served as Chairman of the International Board of Governors of the Technion.

Uzia Galil has been awarded an honorary doctorate in technical sciences by the Technion in recognition of his contribution to the development of science-based industries in Israel, an honorary doctorate in philosophy by the Weizmann Institute of Science, an honorary doctorate in engineering by Polytechnic University, New York, and an honorary doctorate from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, in Israel. He is also a recipient of the Israel Prize in 1997.

The Galil Center

Uzia Galil, together with Elron, is the sponsor of the Galil Center for Telemedicine and Medical Informatics, along with the Technionís Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine. Emphasizing the integration of medical sciences, technology and a humanistic approach to healthcare, the Galil Center was established in December 2000 to support basic and applied research in Telemedicine and Medical Informatics. This will ensure that medical research, practice and education of the next generation of physicians will benefit from the new technologies.

The Galil Center offers medical professionals and industries in the telemedicine and related fields the opportunity to collaborate on research and development projects, with the Technionís world-renowned Computer sciences, Medicine and Biomedical Engineering Faculties.
